What is Legal Metrology Repairer Licence?
Any person/firm involved in dealing with weight and measure instruments, devices, or equipment falling under the purview of Legal Metrology must obtain a repairer license.
An application for a repairer license is submitted to the Controller of the State Legal Metrology along with application fees and essential documents. The license is valid for a minimum of one year and a maximum of five years.
Under Section 23 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, there is a prohibition of manufacture, repair, or sale of weight or measure items without a license. It further states that no person shall manufacture, repair, or sale, any weight or measure unless a valid license is issued by the Controller. It is important to note that no license to repair shall be required by a manufacturer for the purpose of repairing its own weight or measure.
As per Section 46 of the Legal Metrology Act 2009, any person who repairs or sells, etc. any weight or measure without being having a valid license, shall be punished with a fine which may extend to Rs. 5,000 or for a subsequent offence with imprisonment for a term up to one year or with fine or both.

Registration of a company as a manufacturer, importer, or packer of weighing and measuring instruments and devices needs to be done under Legal Metrology. Government Authorities have devised a systematic procedure for the registration of a respective company under Legal Metrology.

- Certificate of registration of Industry/registration under Shops and Establishments Act/ NOC from Grampanchayat
- Authenticated document regarding Proprietorship/Registered partnership deed/ memorandum of association and articles of association along with list of directors
- Premises - ownership documents/ registered rent or leave license agreement or lease agreement NOC from the owner / NOC of the member if the premise is owned by family member.
- Machinery, tools and equipment list
- PAN Card Copy (Proprietor PAN in case Proprietorship Company/Company PAN in case Partnership/LLP /Pvt. Ltd./Ltd.).
- Profession tax registration.
- List of qualified persons.
- Educational qualification certificate of the Applicant / qualified person.
- Experience certificate of applicant / qualified person.
- List of testing equipment.
- Verification certificate of test weight or measure.
- List of loan articles.
- Verification certificate of loan articles.
- Self-declaration about whether any offence is pending against him in court or police station.
- Self-declaration about whether the Applicant has violated any of the provisions of Legal Metrology Act, 2009 or rules made there under.
- Latest electricity bill.
- Partners/Directors PAN & Aadhar Card (if applicable).
- Any Other documents if required after application.
