What is DOT/OSP/ISP License?

The Government of India has taken initiative for telecom-related services in India and came up with one license which is known as Unified License. Unified License Holder is eligible to apply for ISP license for different areas.

For providing ISP services one has to obtain a Unified License. Therefore it has been cleared that there is a requirement of obtaining ISP authorization under the Unified License.

A unified License holder is eligible to apply for multiple ISP authorizations of different areas. However, if we talk about the validity of the ISP authorizations then it will be valid up to the tenure of the Unified License.

Why this License is Required?

ISPs allow users access to networks that contain the required equipment, enabling users to establish Internet connectivity. ISPs are responsible for making sure you can access the Internet, routing Internet traffic, resolving domain names, and maintaining the network infrastructure that makes Internet access possible.
