The Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) is a premier scientific organization under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India. It is primarily responsible for the exploration, assessment, conservation, management, and regulation of groundwater resources in the country. The CGWB conducts hydrogeological surveys, monitors groundwater levels and quality, and promotes artificial recharge and rainwater harvesting techniques. It also provides technical support for sustainable groundwater development and assists in formulating policies for its effective management. Through its regulatory role, the Board supports the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) in implementing guidelines for groundwater extraction, particularly for industries and commercial users. With its headquarters in Faridabad, Haryana, and regional offices across India, the CGWB plays a critical role in ensuring the sustainable use of the nation’s groundwater resources.
