This approval is required for the quarantine inspection and clearance of imported plants, plant products, and other regulated articles arriving as cargo under the Plant Quarantine (Regulation of Import into India) Order, 2003, issued under the Destructive Insects and Pests Act, 1914.
The objective of this approval is to ensure that imported consignments are free from quarantine pests, diseases, and harmful organisms that may pose a threat to agriculture, the environment, and biodiversity in India.
Before release from the port of entry, the consignment must be inspected by the Plant Quarantine Authority. Clearance is granted only after verifying compliance with phytosanitary requirements prescribed by the Government of India.
