A Radiation Processing Facility (RPF) is a facility that uses radioactive sources and associated systems to deliver a prescribed dose of radiation to a specific target within a predetermined time. This licence is required for any individual, company, or organization intending to establish and operate a land-based stationary gamma radiation processing facility as specified under the Atomic Energy (Radiation Protection) Rules, 2004. The licence is issued by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), the national regulatory authority responsible for regulating nuclear and radiation facilities in India. AERB ensures the safe use of radiation and enforces regulatory requirements to protect workers, the public, and the environment from radiation hazards. This licence is mandatory for facilities engaged in applications such as product sterilization, food irradiation, and other industrial radiation processing activities using stationary gamma radiation sources.
