A Nucleonic Gauge Facility License is required for any person or organization intending to operate Ionising Radiation Gauging Devices (IRGDs), also known as nucleonic gauges, as per the Atomic Energy (Radiation Protection) Rules, 2004. These devices use radioactive sources to measure thickness, level, density, and moisture content in various industrial processes without causing damage to the material being examined. Nucleonic gauges are widely used in industries such as metal processing, paper manufacturing, plastics, construction, and packaging to improve product quality, optimize production processes, and reduce material and energy wastage. The license, issued by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), ensures that such devices are operated safely and in compliance with radiation protection regulations.
