Infrastructure Provider Category-I (IP-I) Registration is a registration issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for entities engaged in providing and maintaining telecom infrastructure assets such as dark fibre, right of way (RoW), duct space, and telecom towers. These assets are made available on lease, rent, or sale basis to telecom service providers licensed under the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885. Introduced for private sector participation on 13 August 2000, the IP-I framework supports the growth of India’s telecommunications network by enabling infrastructure sharing among licensed operators. The registration is granted on a non-exclusive basis, allowing multiple companies to participate in developing and operating telecom infrastructure across the country.
